About
Alex Pope was born in Vancouver and grew up in North Vancouver. He earned a BSc in Computer Science from UBC (1988) and has worked as a computer programmer/analyst since then, much of the work being related to financial services.
During his time at UBC, he was Computer Science Representative to the Science Undergraduate Society for three years and served as Secretary of the Computer Science Students’ Society in his fourth year of University.
Alex married his wife Barb in 1996 and the couple now has three young children, aged 12, 10 and 5. The family has been living in Maple Ridge for 10 years.
Alex is active in the bike racing community, participating in and volunteering at events with the Team Escape Velocity Cycling Club and the Burnaby Velodrome Club.
He served on the board of directors for the BC Randonneurs Cycling Club for six years (four years as Treasurer, one as Vice-Chair, one as Chair) and is currently in his fourth year as Vice President Randonneur on the Cycling BC board of directors.
Alex joined the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Bicycle Advisory Committee as a member in 2008 and has served as Chair of the committee since January 2010. He has also been involved with the local committee for the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition since its inception.
He has also been a member of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Chamber of Commerce for two years.
